John Barnes’

Myofascial Release (MFR)

The Myofascial Release Approach® (MFR) was developed by John F. Barnes, PT, and perfected over several years. It is a safe, gentle, and consistently effective approach to alleviating pain and tension in the body.

Muscles have fascia, which are bands or sheets of connective tissue which attach, stabilize, enclose, and separate muscles from each other and from internal organs.

Myofascial pain – pain in a muscle’s connective tissue – can be caused by the rapid pace of life, stress, trauma, surgical procedures, and other conditions. Myofascial restriction can cause immense pressure and pain in areas throughout the body, much of which does not appear on standard medical screens, such as x-rays, CAT scans, or other tests.

While medications are the typical approach to pain relief, they are temporary, and do little to address the cause of pain. Myofascial Release alleviates the pain caused by pressure and tension in the fascia, helping the body to heal itself, naturally.

Heal migraines and headaches with cranial release

Cranial Release Technique

Cranial Release Technique (CRT) is a hands-on process facilitating the release of strain in the cranial-dural system – the areas of the brain and spinal cord.

Learn More

Through specific stretching of the dura in the back and neck, the release causes relaxation in the nervous system, fascia, and muscles throughout the body. This restores proper cerebrospinal fluid flow and dynamics, natural health in the body, and mental balance.

Cranial Release Technique can be used to treat a wide range of conditions including stress, chronic neck and shoulder pain, anxiety and emotional imbalance.

Therapeutic Deep Tissue, Lymphatic and Relaxing Massage

Referral Pain is felt in a location other than its source, and is often the real cause of pain. For example, headaches can be caused by Referral Pain and treated by these massage techniques.

We practice other forms of Therapeutic Massage, including Lymphatic, Deep Tissue, and Relaxing Massages, which can correct the sources of Referral Pain.

Many studies have shown that regular massage can enhance health, provide relief from anxiety and tension, and restore balance to the body, mind and spirit.

  • Deep Tissue Massage:Revitalization deep in the muscles and connective tissue to release contractions and pain
  • Lymphatic Massage: A gentle massage that encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body; it is particularly helpful for people with lymphedema and fibromyalgia
  • Relaxing Massage: A hands-on treatment performed on the whole body, using gentle pressure, kneading, and rolling of skin and muscle to aid relaxation
